THE LIONHEAD RABBIT

The Lionhead rabbit is a fancy rabbit which looks like a Lion but a rabbit version.

There are many colours of the Lionhead but once again the main thing in showing Lionheads is good type.

The Lionheads were first standardised May 1st 2002.

The ring size for showing is 'C' rings.

Standard in 2002

Type

The Lionhead has to be cobby, well rounded body, head bold with well developed muzzle.

Legs medium length and not too fine, stance to be high enough to show full chest and mane.

Ears

Not to exceed 3 inches, well covered but no furnishings and carried erect.

Eyes

Bold and bright, eyes of whites - red or blue, in all other colours as per colour standard.

Mane

The mane is the most important part of the standard.

It should be between 2-3 inches in length, to form a full circle around the head extending to a 'V' at the back of neck, falling into a fringe between the ears.

Noticeably longer hair on cheeks and chest.

Coat

The coat to be dense of medium length, roll back, and even all over body, small amount of extended fur around flanks permissible on under five months exhibit, but not desired.

Colour

All colours as long as they conform to a recognised colour and pattern.

Condition

The condition is also important on any rabbit.

The Lionhead should be free from any disease and to be of perfect health.

Faults

Woolly furnishings, head too fine, ears too long, excessive fur on flanks and poor colour.

Weight

3lbs to 3lb 12oz (1.700kg)
